Ep 25 The Tragic Story of Sophie Lancaster and Robert Maltby

Today, I will be talking about the horrific crime involving Sophie Lancaster and Robert Maltby. Sophie, born on November 26, 1986, in Lancanshire, England, was a bright and compassionate individual who loved expressing herself through a goth aesthetic.

During high school, Sophie met Robert Maltby, and they quickly became inseparable, sharing the same taste in clothes and music. Despite facing bullying and harassment due to their style, they continued to support each other and planned a future together.

Tragically, on August 11, 2007, Sophie and Robert were brutally attacked by a group of teenagers in a park. The assault left them both with severe injuries, and Sophie succumbed to her injuries after two weeks on life support. The crime shocked the community and highlighted issues of prejudice and violence among youth.

The attackers were eventually caught and faced trial, with two receiving life sentences for Sophie's murder. Sophie's mother, Sylvia, started a campaign called Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred, Intolerance Everywhere (SOPHIE) to honor her daughter's memory and promote tolerance.

Join me as I delve into this heartbreaking case, the investigation, and the impact it had on the community and beyond.
